Hypnosis for weight loss is not a new idea. This has been seen as a possible bit of assistance to individuals looking to lose weight since the mid to late 1800s. While this can help individual dieters get a stronger sense of discipline, the whole idea of getting hypnotized and then magically losing weight or not feeling hungry is just a Hollywood level fantasy.

Some studies have been done on weight loss hypnosis though not many conclusions can be drawn. These studies are plagued by several factors. The first factor is a low sample size, less than one hundred people. A small sample size makes it difficult to form a control group and a test group.

The second factor is the age range, from teens to mid-forties, being too broad. Also too broad a spectrum was the BMI (body mass index) of the individuals in the case studies, or their percentage of weight above their ideal BMI. Not having concise enough of a test group or control group introduces too many variables to isolate making the results difficult to fully interpret.

The third factor affecting the interpretation of results is the difficulty in separating the results of hypnosis from that of placebo effect. In short, it is not possible to aver at this time whether success through weight loss hypnosis is in fact from the hypnosis or simply a psychological boost to a patient already on the right track.

The last major variable in the weight loss hypnosis studies are the individuals and their sensitivity to hypnotism. Both Stanford and Harvard have developed a series of tests to indicate how deep of a trance test subjects are immersed and whether the test subjects in the weight loss sessions were brought to the same level of trance isn’t clear.

While there is still debate as to the effectiveness of hypnotism in various subjects and wide interpretation as to the susceptibility and suggestibility of patients under hypnosis, dieting is still a matter of finding the individual approach that works for losing weight and keeping it off. Golfing Etiquette Basics

Golf is a carefully balanced game of rules and etiquette, and it’s quite important to know the essentials of golfing etiquette before you go on the course to play your first game of golf.

It doesn’t matter whether you are playing on your own, in a twosome or in a foursome, golfing etiquette demands that you must always wait your turn. You must stay aware of the group on the next hole and wait until they are well ahead of you before you hit your ball.

Golfing etiquette also means that it is never correct to “hurry” the group in front of you. If you are playing with others, wait your turn to hit the ball and never hit at the same time as another player.

While you wait for your turn to play, go to your ball and determine which golf club you will select and how you are going to hit the golf ball with it. This is called “ready golf” and keeps the game moving along, but don’t rush everybody, just be ready for your turn to play.

Another useful piece of golfing etiquette, especially for novices is ‘playing through’. For example, if your team is holding up the players behind you, perhaps because you are playing consistently over par or taking a long time to choose your club, let them play through. You would simply wave them through, or if they are not far away from you, just ask them if they would like to play through. You will never make an enemy by doing this!

When someone is making a shot, you should be standing behind them and you shouldn’t make a sound! It is very distracting to be ready to tee off and just as you draw back, someone decides to play with keys in their pocket or noisily unwrap a bar of chocolate.

Replacing divots. Let’s say you are on the fairway and you strike the ball a bit thick and a clump of earth and grass goes flying, golfing etiquette says that you ought to replace it. On some courses you just put the turf back and step on it to press it down, but on most courses, there is a sand/seed mixture on the course to put into the divot. Also, if your ball makes a deep impression when it lands on the green, you should use your divot tool to repair it.

As soon as you have completed a hole, replace the flag and leave the green as quickly as possible so that the next players can play that hole. Count your score and write it on the scorecard when you get back to your cart.

What You Should Keep in your Golfing Bag.

There are many types of golf bag out there. Some are practical, some are just beautiful and some are both! Then there different size bags. Again, some are large, some even larger and som so enormous that you could take all you need to go on holiday in it!

Generally speaking, you need a bag which is just large enough to hold your clubs, extra balls, your glove, tees, car keys, extra pencils, ball markers, a ball retriever, sunscreen, a windbreaker and a large umbrella.

You could also include other items that are handy when outdoors, such as tissues, a small first-aid kit or at least some plasters and some anti-insect spray.

A small pack of baby wipes comes in very handy; in your bag they get warmed by the heat, so when you get sweaty or a sand trap covers you with sand, a nice warm wipe can be very refreshing.

Other things that could come in useful are certain drugs: for instance, antihistamine, if you are allergic to wasp stings or medication to counteract an illness like diabetes (if you suffer from it, that is). It is vital to remember to replace these medicines before their expiry date though.

One item that doesn’t need to be in your golf bag is your cell phone. If you must carry it, turn off the ringer as a courtesy to other players. If you must use it, be aware of others who might be taking a swing or putting their ball. You have to be considerate!

If you have these items with you in your golf bag, you will be covered for most minor tribulations, like a bee sting, an ant bite, a blister or even a sudden downpour. If you know that you are well prepared, you will be able to relax that little bit more and enjoy your game that much more too.
