Executive Recruitment Firms: The Benefits Of Hiring Them

Posted in Leadership on May 25th, 2010 by Bill McNamee-Lamb – Be the first to comment

The most prized and important asset a company could ever have is human resources. Regardless of how great technologies and company may have, the employees make a business a failure or a success. This is even more so for higher executive management personnel. These people have the task of making important decisions that can affect and even change a company. That is why it is completely essential to hire the best quality candidates possible for high-level executive positions.

A great place to look for executive level management material would be an executive recruitment firm. Firms such as these are an invaluable resource when it comes to finding top-notch personnel; even though this can be expensive, the quality of the individual the firm finds for you will be well worth the money. Typically, a recruitment firm will focus on executive management personnel for specific industries or job types. They have a considerable knowledge as to the candidates out there and who is the most qualified and reputable since they have extensive lists and data on many potential employees. With their extensive knowledge, they will know who will fit best into the position you are looking to fill.

Executive recruitment firms will do many things that a human resource manager will be uncomfortable with doing. For instance, an executive recruitment firm is able to go to potential candidates working for the competition and offer them a new career opportunity working for your company or simply just see if they are interested. Since executive recruitment firms are constantly searching for new candidates they have quite a list to select from of potential executive management personnel. Therefore, they can find someone who will suit your needs at a moment’s notice.

They have an extensive working knowledge on these potential candidates and will have an accurate understanding on who has the best skills suited for the job you are looking for them to do. If a company seeking management personnel has a set salary scale of pay the recruitment firm will know who will be interested in the position based on the money being offered and their skills to match it.

Another key benefit of using an executive recruitment firm is the confidentiality it brings. A company would not like to be seen directly approaching an executive in a competitor for a number of reasons. First is the attention it draws can be unwelcome. Second is to avoid the ‘embarrassment’ if a deal falls through. The recruitment firm acts as a middle man and a negotiation buffer; the fact that nothing is said directly between the company and a headhunted executive at the start of negotiations reduces the probability of friction or tension in the future. This is particularly important when are trying to fill a sensitive executive position within a company.

It is not recommend using an executive recruitment firm to fill up entry-level positions in the company since this would be rather unneeded and expensive. Moreover, you will want an executive recruitment to help track down reputable and quality executive material to fill you high-level positions. Executive recruitment firms know just who will work best for you and your scenario.

Your True Character Is Only Revealed In The Valleys

Posted in Leadership on May 4th, 2010 by Farhad Billimoria – Be the first to comment

Your True Character is only revealed in the Valleys. Not on mountain tops. It is easy to stay excited when things are going good. But how do you behave when challenges come down on you, when you are being laughed at, ridiculed, and rejected?

It certainly is difficult but challenging also -

To Appreciate when others are criticizing

To keep Building when others are destroying

To Co-operate when others are resist

To Decide when others misguide you

To Expedite even when others delayed you

To be Forgiving even when others plan to take a revenge

To Give when others are refusing

To keep Helping when others are only promising

To Ignore when others are condemning

To justify when others are disputing

To be Kind when others curse

To be able to Lead when others get confused

To keep Motivating when others are discouraging

To Neglect when others keep on disturbing

To Oblige when others hesitate

To Participate even when others want to avoid

To Question when others are dictating

To Respect when others are complaining

To Serve when others despair

To Think over when others are advising

To be United when others keep dispersing

To Verify when others are doubting

To keep Working when others are postponing

To Xerox truth when others lie

To do good when others are harming

To Zeal & console when others are depressing

Are you up for the Challenge ? If you are, you will be wealthy beyond imagination!

Your true character is revealed by what you do when no one is watching. The tongue weighs very little, but very few people are able to hold it. To Fall down doesn’t make you a failure, but to Stay down does. Don’t be scared of pressure, just Remember that pressure is what turns a lump of coal into a diamond.

A woodpecker owes all his success to the fact that he must use his head. The man without a dream is the poorest of all men, not the man without a cent. The only preparation for tomorrow is the right use of today.

Stimulus Spending Missing The Mid Market

Posted in Leadership on May 3rd, 2010 by Stuart Morley – Be the first to comment

Mid market companies have traditionally only had relatively few options to refinance even in the good times compared to large companies. Mid market companies have been ignored during the government bailout of large banks and large auto companies. The credit drought has still not passed and so US and, to a less extent, Canadian mid market companies have had to become very creative in financing their businesses during these tough times.

Approximately 40% of mid market companies have a balance sheet problem. They have too much debt. In the short term they are securing bank support to move outside certain covenants, extend amortization levels and interest payment relief. However the longer term options include finding more equity, accepting slower growth to conserve cash and accelerating debt repayments.

Many mid market manufacturers use their factory building as a source of collateral for bank loans. However, in tough times, when the value of commercial real estate investments fall it makes it tough to refinance these loans. In many cases the shareholders have to make up the difference or find new equity partners.

A key balance sheet ratio for many banks is the mix of debt and equity. CEOs of mid market companies are stunned when bankers who in the past would accept shareholder investments making up one third of the balance sheet, now want shareholder to increase their equity to represent nearly half the balance sheet despite steady performance of the business during these tough times.

Selling a mid market business in this market is tough. One client is a manufacturer and the buyers are being required to produce proof from their private equity investors that they can fund the acquisition without bank debt if needed. For the most part the private equity pools have valued their portfolios based on multiples of EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization). As these multiples have dropped significantly it is attractive to make new investments but not a good time to sell. Shareholders of mid market companies are also faced with selling at lower multiples or waiting for better times which could slow the recovery of the mid market merger and acquisition market.

A few years ago it was relatively easy and cheap to secure finance to undertake a restructuring under the bankruptcy act (Chapter 11 in the USA or CCAA in Canada) however this source of finance has dried up and so it will make it harder for mid market companies to seek bankruptcy protection and also for those currently under bankruptcy protection to emerge any time soon.

The glass is half full! A study of mid market companies by GE Capital in 2010 found that 54% of CFO’s predicted their profits would rise in 2010 even though they have a negative view of the current state of the US economy.

Canadian mid market companies are taking advantage of their better credit situation to undertake investments in the USA while US companies are exporting more to Canada as their Canadian dollar continues to rise against he US dollar.

The unemployment rates are still high (10 % in the US and 8.5% in Canada) and will stay high for some time. However if mid market businesses can access the credit they need to grow it will help reduce the unemployment rate as mid market companies (with revenues of $10 million to $500 million) comprise about 28% of jobs according to US Census data.

Mid market companies have significant term debt that needs to be refinanced over the next five years. Unless credit markets improve, these mid market companies could be facing more turbulent times.

Leadership Development: A Process Of Continuous Continual Improvement

Posted in Leadership on May 2nd, 2010 by Bart Icles – Be the first to comment

Do you have a team? Do people wait around for your decision? Well, you’re probably a born leader. But it doesn’t end there. As a leader, you also have to enhance this ability. Being a leader is a gift. It’s something that not everyone has, but everyone can be. So as one of the few people who could get the chance to become a leader, it is you’re responsibility to keep getting better at it. By getting leadership development courses, you will become an even more efficient leader not only for your team, but also for yourself.

Simply put, leadership training is defined as the process of an individual continually trying to become a better leader. The training will definitely be of great use and advantage for aspiring leaders. The training includes all sorts of things in the process. One must look at his attitudes, the way he makes decisions, the way he behaves in front of his followers, the way he manages his time, the way he influences others and the way he makes the team efficient.

To become an effective leader, one must also know who and how his people are, and what kind of people he is dealing with. You must study their sociological traits, physiological makeup, psychological aspects and philosophical beliefs; all of which will be taught and elaborated in Leadership Development courses, workshops or seminars. To become a leader, you must be familiar with yourself internally and externally.

You have to know who they are. Who are these people looking up to you? What ages are they in, what kinds of art do they like, what kind of music do they enjoy, etc. Since you won’t be that effective if you don’t know them, you have to find a common denominator between you and everyone in the group. That way it’ll be easier for you to accomplish the goal that you have for all of them. Also, you should have the power to instill values, good values, into them. Being a leader is also in a way being a teacher. You have to be responsible enough to know that you have a duty to make good out of these people who look up to you.

These are only a few things that you will learn in Leadership Development programs, workshops, courses or seminars. These are only a few of the techniques just a part of the whole.

Some Ideas For Learning How To Build Self Confidence

Posted in Leadership on April 29th, 2010 by Barbara Davis – Be the first to comment

People struggle with issues of self esteem for all kinds of reasons. Perhaps, during childhood, we were given the idea by authority figures or peers that we were not good enough. Sometimes, low self esteem can be caused by a traumatic event later in life, such as the loss of a job or a partner. Sometimes, it our station in life, economically or financially, that makes us feel unworthy. No matter what the reason, there are times in our lives where we could all use some tips on how to build self confidence.

Often, we feel that we are powerless to improve our own state of mind. We think that since our bad feelings were the result of outside forces, only outside forces can change them. This is not true. There are lots of actions you can take to help improve your own emotional state and raise your self esteem. Here are a few things to try.

Exercise

Exercise is an extremely important tool for fighting depression and feelings of low self esteem. When your body is in shape and functioning well, you feel much more confident and powerful. Even two short workouts a week can make a difference, but three or four workouts, lasting thirty minutes to an hour, could change your life. Your body will feel stronger, and exercise will make you feel good emotionally as well.

Pinpoint Something You Do Well.

We often make the mistake of focusing only on the things we wish we could do, and ignoring the things we can do. I don;t care who you are, there is something that comes naturally to you, something you do well without having to struggle too hard. Some people can sing. Some people can cook. Some people can write. If you find this thing, and work on it, you will experience the joy of accomplishing something easily. That joy can channel itself into energy that can help you with things that are more challenging.

Take Pride in Your Appearance

For many people, depression leads to the neglect of hygiene, grooming and appearance. Depressed people often feel that they lack the energy to make themselves look good. The problem is, this only increases our feelings of unworthiness. If you don’t like your own appearance, then you have no reason to believe that others will like it. Looking in the mirror and being disappointed with what you see only exacerbates low self esteem. Take the time to take care of yourself. Wear colors that make you happy. Treat your appearance as a work of art, and you will be pleasantly surprised each time you pass a store window or mirror.

We all wonder how to build self confidence. Making changes in our lives can certainly help, but one of the best ways is to work with what you have. You, as you are, are already good enough. So, as the old saying goes, “get in where you fit in.” Loving yourself as you are will lead to positive change.

Locate how to Start Building Your Self Confidence Now! When you let your self confidence shine people will notice you more. Head online for the methods you need now.

Some Of The Essential Elements Of Strategic Thinking In Organizations

Posted in Leadership on March 25th, 2010 by Bart Icles – Be the first to comment

Improving the business performance of your company will most likely involve a lot of strategic thinking. In deed, this method of thinking can help executive leaders, managers, as well as rank and file employees, in raising the bar of their performance in the company, especially in comparing where they are now and where they would want the company and themselves to be in the future. It can also be a lot of help to develop such a method of thinking within the company, so it can smoothly work hand in hand with the vision of the company. Through this, you will be able to better ensure that the company is moving towards the achievement of its vision and objectives through a structured and progressive path.

Most management and marketing experts believe that there are certain essential requirements in becoming effective and successful strategic thinkers. In many cases, strategic thinking starts with having a clear vision of your organization in the future. However, it takes more than just coming up with random visions of the future – you must be able to develop a vision with a strategic purpose and it must be done through a creative process. And this is mainly the reason why strategic thinkers are often considered visionaries.

Strategic thinking also involves learning from experience. This simply means that if you want to become a strategic thinker, you must be ready to continuously learn and become a lifelong learner. This can help you much in using your various experiences in becoming better at analyzing strategic issues. And through this, you will be able to continuously improve yourself in anything that you do. Also, you must also be able to learn how to use your time effectively, and at the same time, efficiently. It is no secret that strategic thinkers give much importance to time, making them real masters of strategic time management.

There are several factors that makes one a strategic thinker but among those that are most important is to learn how to develop a certain level of awareness of the different things that are going around you. This is related to your commitment and willingness to become a lifelong learner. So keep in mind that there are several other important things you must learn and it is best that you start doing so today if you plan to learn how to think strategically.

Keep in mind that it is quite possible for everyone to develop strategic thinking but for this possible, people must have the will to learn. Along with this, leaders must also learn how to listen well to what their employees have to say. Through this, thinking strategically can very well become a reality.

Teamwork In Today’s Organizations

Posted in Leadership on March 23rd, 2010 by Bart Icles – Be the first to comment

Many of us are familiar with working in teams but not too many of us truly understand the meaning of teamwork. Most of us think that this only applies to athletes who engage in team sports. However, it is also quite important for employees to work as a team and for them to feel that they are part of the team. Many of us often confuse the word team with group. It helps to take note that there is a big difference between working as a team and working as a group.

If we take a group, it simply is a collection of people that can be categorized according to a common quality or association. On the other hand, a team is a group of people who practice the real essence of teamwork. Through this, teams are able to better determine the strengths and abilities that they have so they can use this for the good of the whole organization. And by the time that you take advantage of the many benefits of new technology,With continuous developments in technology and with the changing financial and economic scenarios, it can be quite an advantage to work as a team, and not as just a group.

It is true that is possible for a group of people to accomplish their tasks individually but there is really a significant difference between working as a group and working as a team. It is far easier to accomplish the different goals of the company or organization if teamwork is present. And this is why there is a significant number of companies that are starting to build and develop work teams. There are several ways to build and develop work teams, and one of the most popular ways is through team building activities.

Of all the methods available, team building activities are by far the most popular way of building and developing team spirit in organizations. Team building activities do not only build teams, they can also help much in developing the skills, abilities, and strengths of the different members of the teams. At the same time, this kind of activity can help bridge gaps that might exist within and among teams.

It is quite important for modern day organizations to place value on teamwork. Employees who are able to work as a team give more value to the different tasks and responsibilities that are expected of them. And this makes way for better collaboration and innovation, helping them to increase their chances of achieving what needs to be achieved.

According to Howie Schwartz’s book Mobile Marketing Leadership over 70% of the worlds population owns a mobile phone nowadays. According to several research sources, teens are 16% more accepting towards being advertised to through their mobile devices. Use Publicity And Marketing To Survive The Recession

Well fellow business men and women, the recession is not over yet. Let’s get in the game big time and reach the clients that are still able to purchase services. How do you reach them? Stay visible in the media. Get lots of media attention from appearing on radio shows, to getting major TV bookings to being the quoted expert in newspaper and magazines. Oh, and don’t forget to get lots of big bookings on the internet media sites as they have strong rankings and this can help your search engine optimization as well.

Use publicity, promotion and marketing strategies to stay visible to your target market. Demand your competitive edge by appearing in all the media that targets your market. Sure, this takes a lot of work but you can streamline the process by working with publicity professionals, at least for the big media. Businesses that are in a position to hire you are investing in outcomes that is, actually deliverable, you know – the ole “what’s in it for me”? Tell them what’s in it for them. Show them you are the only one they should hire as you are all over the internet and media as your industry’s pro. Now, this is competing to win!

Invest in yourself as you are your best investment. Your media placements and publicity successes can be repurposed to your website, promotional materials, publicity initiative, your media bio and lots more. And isn’t it nice to be able to name drop a famous host and famous TV show saying that you were on the show as a guest expert? Of course, and you get to enjoy the tremendous third party endorsement that follows. Yes, media placements are as good as an investment as gold is in tough times. There is a flight to quality and you can be the quality.

How do you do that? Showcase your experience, wisdom, knowledge and expertise by appearing on radio shows, TV shows, in newspaper and magazines and/or on internet news sites as the commenting or quoted expert. This publicity and marketing keeps you visible and importantly, vital to your target market. To stay vital, you will have to be current on the news in your industry, develop thoughtful and useful opinions and commentary to keep you engaged in the discussion that involves your area of expertise.

Let’s illustrate the point: If you wanted to hire a financial planner to help you decide how to invest your hard earned dollars for growth and safety, would you hire someone on their last legs, someone you have not heard from in a while or the finance expert you watched on your local TV news or local morning show, read about in your local newspaper, watched on national TV being interviewed by a top notch host and read about as the quoted expert in a major newspaper or magazine? The answer you give to the above question should help you develop a strategic marketing, publicity and branding strategy to keep you competitive and successful despite economic conditions.
